Event Details

1100 Watercolor Society – The Eleven Hundred Watercolor Society was founded in 1991 by artists who studied the well-known watercolorist Mario Cooper and Dale Meyers at the Art Students League of New York City. Each served as President of the American Watercolor Society for many years. The goals of the Eleven Hundred Watercolor Society are to exhibit members’ work, to grow as artists and to enhance the appreciation of watercolor and watermedia as art forms. Members are continually experimenting with new approaches in texturing, using salt, saran wrap, wet into wet, gesso, acrylic, and various mediums, strings and rice paper in rapid as well as studied techniques. At times paper is used as the element, leaving white surrounded by color, resulting in white becoming the color.

Hank Blaustein – Hank Blaustein, a native and lifelong Brooklynite, born in 1937 in Crown Heights, has been drawing the world around him since he could hold a pencil. His subjects are people, places, and things that draw him to them; his goal is to capture their essence and personality on paper. He is, in effect, an artist-journalistwho records his observations in spontaneously rendered ink, pencil and watercolor. His style is classic, immediate, straightforward and honest – without judgment.
