Event Details

“Harlem is . . . Music,” an expanded exhibition shows us the musicians and institutions who helped make Harlem unique through a variety of music genres, from jazz and blues to hip-hop and rap from 1910 to the present. The growing installation uses photos, archival images and portraits to highlight contributions by more than 21 legends.

A new component of the show, Harlem’s Black and Jewish Music Culture 1890 – 1930, is a spectacular sheet music exhibit that tells the story of collaborations between the neighborhood’s black and Jewish composers, performers, and music publishers, created by Harlem historian, John T. Reddick.

The exhibition will run from Dec. 12, 2016 to Feb 22, 2017 and is a public art and education program of Community Works presented in collaboration with The Interchurch Center.
