The Work of St. Andrew's Refugee Services.

CWS Global Presents The Global Migration and Climate Change Brownbag Series.

12PM on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the Interchurch Center.

Join CWS in welcoming Chris Eades, Executive Director of St Andrew's Refugee Services (StARS) in Cairo, Egypt.

As part of our Global Migration Brownbag series, Chris will speak about the threats to safety, dignity and human rights faced by refugees in Cairo; as well as StARS' experiences in increasing refugee participation in human assistance activities and mechanisms for extending physical and legal protection.

Founded by St. Andrew's United Church of Cairo in 1979, St Andrew's Refugee Services (StARS) is an organization of more than 350 staff, of whom 85 percent are refugees. StARS offers services in six main program areas - education, psycho-social, medical, mental health, outreach, and legal assistance. They anticipate assisting more than 40,000 refugees in the next 12 months.

A refugee-led organization, StARS' serves persons coming from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Iraq, South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia, Syria and Yemen.

Chris Eades has served as the Executive Director since 2014. He previously represented unaccompanied refugee children in the UK; worked in Egypt as the Director of Legal Programming of Africa and Middle East Refugee Assistance; served in Thailand as the Director of Legal Services for the Jesuit Refugee Service; and provided training and operational support to refugee NGOs working in Morocco, Libya, Cambodia and Indonesia.
