THE AFFAIR OF THE BRUSH

I have spent many years on a long journey from representational to abstract art. Along the way, I have discovered that color is a critical element in my work.
I view my art as a reflection of my soul. By using strong vibrant colors,
I convey energy, anxiety, pain and harmony. I believe color is strongly
tied in with my emotions. Each of my paintings is rich with many layers, shades and nuances of color, which flow in and out of simple geometric and organic shapes. I paint to try to interpret my environment and capture it through the intensity of color.
In addition to enjoying my art, I hope that viewers interpret my work
to see their own emotions as well as mine in each piece. I want the viewer to personalize the painting and own it emotionally.

Aisha Mansouri

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Aisha Mansouri has been diligently studying art for many years. She
began her art education in 1968 studying oil painting in Rome, Italy.
In 1979, while living in New York, she took numerous art courses in oil
painting, figure drawing, and watercolor at SUNY Purchase. Ms. Mansouri
also attended New York Institute of Technology to study Interior Design,
a field she believes helped her in her understanding and usage of color.
In the mid 80's Ms. Mansouri moved to Tokyo, Japan and spent two years studying the art of Sumie. This art form allowed her to delve into the aesthetic side of Japanese culture and to appreciate the simplicity as well as the complexity of Sumie and Nihonga.
In the early 90's Ms. Mansouri lived in Tunisia, Egypt, and Greece. In each
country she continued to paint in oil and water colors, drawing on her
surroundings for inspiration and subject matter.
Since the mid 90's, Ms. Mansouri has been taking classes at the Main Line
Art Center in Haverford, PA, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine
Arts. She started abstracting her art in 1996 and has found it extremely
liberating. She enjoys manipulating her media to achieve a desired look,
color and texture.
Ms. Mansouri has exhibited and sold her work in New York, Tunisia, Tokyo, Athens, and Pennsylvania. In 1997, she won the Bryn Mawr Trust Company Award for an abstract pastel painting. In 2005 she had a solo show at
Villanova University Art Gallery. In 2008 she won the Quita Broadhead
Award for abstract mixed media for "Affair of the Brush."
