PROMOTING HEALTH AT THE INTERCHURCH CENTER
The Interchurch Center has, for a number of years now, offered to everyone working for any tenant agency, executives through support staff, a variety of health promoting activities ranging from a free gym, exercise classes at minimal cost, and Weight Watchers At Work, to topic- focused Health Fairs. Relative to the actual numbers of employees in the building, a small percentage of individuals take part in these activities-even the free ones, like the fitness center and the Health Fair.
A number of studies have been done through the years that show that companies who permit their employees flexibility in their at-work time to participate in wellness-oriented activities like exercise, reduce health care costs, absenteeism and injuries, and increase productivity, morale and loyalty. It pays, in many ways, to promote wellness in the work place. |
