Jessica Sporn

Artist Statement

Jessica Sporn's joyous works of art are a celebration of the similarities between cultures, faiths and generations and also embrace the spirit of peace that is the message of the holiday season.

As she explains, "In my art work, I seek to illuminate how our hopes and dreams impact the world, and how we all bring our pasts with us as we step into the future. I explore the reality that the people of the world share histories and experiences that make up a single fabric and relate to a one another."

Using photographs of her family and ancestors, personal memorabilia, found objects and semi-precious stones, Ms. Sporn creates paintings which layer experience and life. Her spirit houses and altars are inspired by her practice of Vinyasa yoga. A Sanskrit prayer which translates to "may my actions contribute in some way to the peace and happiness in the world" is a guiding principle for her aesthetic. Jessica comments "It is my hope that people viewing my art will see the interconnectedness of all beings, be moved to actions of peace and compassion, and that the world will someday be a safer, more loving place."
