About the Artist
James
Rauchman has spent the last nine years painting his experiences of the island of Cuba
from an insider’s view, he was granted entry to Cuba to study his art by the U.S.
Treasury Department. Included in this
exhibition are his paintings of everyday life created from snapshots and a
series of large oils which portray African spirituality in celebrations and
rituals which he witnessed. Also
included are several watercolor portraits, done from life, of distinguished
Cubans in the arts and sciences. A short
documentary video created by Rachman will be shown of the San Lazaro festival
in Havana at
the opening reception on February 28th.
Mr.
Rauchman has an MFA from Columbia
University and a recent
Pollock-Krasner Foundation award. |
